David Moretti, the young star of here! TV's The Lair, knew he had to leave the complacent, conservative bubble that was his hometown of Cranston, Rhode Island. He knew he had bigger plans than could be achieved within such a bubble. He packed his Jeep, stopped by AAA, and headed West on a four day journey. After a summer internship in Los Angeles, Moretti transferred to the University of Southern California so he could finish school while living in more liberal terrain. At USC, he majored in English with a minor in film and belonged to the Delta Chi fraternity. While in school, he knew something still wasn't right, even though he was in a relationship with a great girl, getting high marks in class, and socially popular. He was hiding something. Before he could even figure it out for himself, he received an email one day that was cc'd to the entire fraternity. A brother found his profile on a gay networking site where David identified himself as gay and publicized it to the world. This was David's first experience with the power of PR. It was quite humbling for him, yet cathartic. It forced him to deal with his biggest demon thus far, himself. And instead of festering in anger, David went the other extreme and decided to embrace his newly realized identity and portray it on the small and big screens.Moretti accepted the starring role of Thom on here!tv's The Lair and came out publicly on the pages of The Advocate magazine in a 6 page spread. He likes the idea of being part of the progression and acceptance of gay culture, by being 'out' and a successful actor. Being masculine, intelligent, confident and openly gay, Moretti is helping break stereotypes and portray gays as normal, as opposed to the cultural caricature many people envision.Moretti continues his role as 'Thom' for a second season slated to air September 5th. The Lair has been number one on Amazon.com's list of gay DVD titles for some time, and is available internationally. The fan base stretches from Croatia to Kentucky. Currently, The Lair and Dante's Cove (in which David guest stars) are the 2 most recognizable gay television shows in production. After tackling the small screen, David looked ahead to film. He first worked on Rex Piano's Murder.Com for Regent Releasing, which shot in the Turk & Caicos Islands in the fall of 2007. Theatrically released July 11, 2008, it stars Moretti alongside David Chokachi, Robyn Lively, and Alexandra Paul. Another film, David DeCoteau's Devil Is A Woman, where David co-stars opposite Susan Anton, will be out in the winter of 2008.While not shooting, Dave is involved with countless charities and supports numerous causes. He was most recently a 'celebrity witness' at the Matthew Shepard Foundation's 'Vow to Vote No' rally and celebration of gay marriage in California. Alongside TR Knight, Jai Rodriguez, Reichen Lehmkuhl, and Charlie David, he oversaw an event where 50 couples made the promise to wed. Moretti also involves himself with APLA, The Trevor Project, the Center for Health Justice, and the Task Force. In August, he will judge the Mr. Gay competition in Philadelphia, benefiting Action AIDS and the City of Hope organizations. And he is assembling a team for the AIDS Walk Los Angeles. David volunteered his time to The San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, hosting a video guide to the landmarks of the city, which will be available on mobile phones and the web in September 2008. He also just rescued a puppy that was abandoned with a broken leg after being hit by a car, as he is a huge animal rights advocate.
