Ruth Jones Biography

Jones grew up in Porthcawl, South Wales. After attending Porthcawl Comprehensive School, she obtained a degree in drama and theatre studies from the University of Warwick, then attended the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff. Jones first worked in TV and radio comedy for BBC Wales in 1991, both writing and performing in several radio series and TV comedy programmes. Theatre with the RSC and The National Theatre was followed by her performance in the hit British movie East Is East. After this Jones appeared as Kelly in four series of ITV's comedy Fat Friends, as Myfanwy in BBC's Little Britain and as Linda in the BBC cult black comedy Nighty Night. Most recently, she has featured in the two BBC One period costume dramas Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Little Dorrit.

She lives in Cardiff in the Penylan area with her husband David and has her own production company, Tidy Productions, which recently landed its first commission. Ruth's BBC Radio Wales chat show is called Ruth Jones Sunday Brunch, featuring a mixture of chat, celebrity guests, comedy and music.
