Peter Markle Biography

Peter Markle was a director of documentaries and television commercials before writing The Personals (1982) (his first feature), which premiered at the Deauville Film Festival. The romantic comedy received excellent reviews and was chosen best first feature at the Houston International Film Festival. His second film, Hot Dog... The Movie (1984), an outlandish comedy encompassing the world of skiing, has achieved cult status. Markle played three years on the United States National hockey team, which was the inspiration for his third film, Youngblood (1986). Bat*21 (1988), starring Gene Hackman and Danny Glover, took him to Borneo to shoot a Vietnam film based on a true story about a 53-year-old colonel shot down behind enemy lines. Markle has directed extensively in television and, in 2006, was nominated for an Emmy for Flight 93 (2006) (TV). In 2007, he was nominated for a DGA award for the film as well.
